| W Prague by Marriott |
The W Prague which opened in December 2024 marks the highly anticipated entry of Marriott’s high-energy luxury lifestyle brand into the Czech Republic.
Taking over the historic footprint of the legendary, 1905 Art Nouveau landmark Grand Hotel Evropa right on Wenceslas Square, the hotel is one of the most stunning architectural balancing acts in Europe right now.
The general consensus from early travelers and luxury hospitality critics paints a picture of exceptional design, world-class service, and a vibrant nightlife scene.
The Design: Old-World Opulence Meets Modern Flare
The hotel splits its 161 rooms and suites across two completely different spaces:
The Heritage Wing: Painstakingly restored to preserve the original 20th-century stained-glass windows, carved wood panels, historic fireplaces, and gilded rotunda.
The New Wing: A bold, ultra-modern, 9-story elliptical structure designed by DAM Architects that pushes a dramatic, contemporary contrast full of mirrors and reflective textures.
The overarching design concept is inspired by Prague’s identity as the "City of Gold" and features whimsical, "gold elixir" themes alongside stunning botanical murals inspired by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha.
What Guests Love (The Pros)
Superlative Service: Unlike some expensive European luxury properties where service can feel indifferent, the hospitality here has been heavily praised. Guests consistently note that the check-in experience and overall attention to detail rival elite luxury standards.
Unbeatable Location: Situated right in the heart of Wenceslas Square, it is a 10-minute walk to the Old Town Square, the National Museum, and the Charles Bridge, making exploring the city completely effortless.
The Dining & Nightlife Scene: The hotel has built a massive culinary and cocktail labyrinth. Le Petit Beefbar au Grand Café resurrects a 1920s socialite epicenter with high-end bistro steak cuts. In the evenings, the W Lounge transitions from coffee to high-end mixology, while Minus One serves as a moody subterranean bar.
Above Rooftop:The outdoor rooftop terrace features an in-house DJ and sweeping panoramic views of Prague’s famous skyline.
The AWAY Spa: Includes a stunning indoor pool ("WET"), a comprehensive thermal suite (sauna, steam room, whirlpool), and an immersive "All Seasons Water Journey" that replicates the sensations of different climates.
The Drawbacks (The Cons)
"Mirror Overload" in Modern Rooms: Some guests staying in the new, ultra-modern wing have noted that the rooms feature a lot of mirrors and highly reflective materials, which can feel a bit visually intense or unsettling if you prefer traditional cozy aesthetics.
Local Infrastructure:Wenceslas Square is highly central but busy; occasional road construction and pedestrian crowds right outside the main entrance can slightly detract from the immediate view from lower-level street-facing rooms.
The Verdict: If you are looking for a standard, quiet, old-fashioned European hotel, this isn't it. But if you want a striking blend of historic Art Nouveau architecture, lively bars, high-end food, and incredibly attentive service, the W Prague is currently one of the absolute best hotel experiences in Central Europe.
Are you planning a trip to Prague and considering booking a room here, or are you comparing it to other luxury options in the city?
