Visit Czech Republic beach Machovo
Máchovo Jezero sandy beach in Czech Republic during Summer.

Do you know that there is a sandy beach ⛱️ in Czech Republic just 1 hour drive from Prague? Lets me take you there.

Mácha's Lake (Máchovo jezero in Czech) is one of the most iconic summer getaways in the Czech Republic. Located in Northern Bohemia near the town of Doksy just over an hour’s drive north of Prague-it offers broad sandy beaches surrounded by dense pine forests. Despite being called a "lake," it is actually the largest historic fishpond in Bohemia, founded back in 1366 by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV.

Key Beaches Around the Lake

The lake is surrounded by four primary beach areas, each offering a distinct vibe:

Doksy Main Beach (*Hlavní pláž Doksy*):

The largest and most energetic spot. Features sandy stretches, beach volleyball courts, water slides, paddleboat rentals, and lively beachfront bistros.

 Staré Splavy Beach & Aquapark:

Famous for its floating water park on the lake surface (complete with water trampolines, slides, and icebergs) and scenic views toward the historic Bezděz Castle.

 Klůček Beach:

A quieter, more relaxed option nestled directly into the pine forest. It’s accessible only by foot or bicycle, making it ideal if you want to avoid crowds.

Borný Beach: A spacious beach popular for windsurfing, paddleboarding, and open-air camping.

What to Do While You're There

 1. Take a Boat Cruise:

Sightseeing passenger boats run regular trips across the lake, offering views of the two protected bird sanctuary islands (*Myší* and *Kachní*).

 2. Water Sports: Rent paddleboards, rowboats, or pedal boats to explore the coves at your own pace.

 3. Hike to Bezděz Castle:

For a great day trip, take the short hike up to the 13th-century Gothic castle ruin on the nearby hill for panoramic views of the entire region.

Travel Tip:

The peak summer season runs from June through August. If you're visiting on a hot summer weekend, aim to arrive early in the morning as parking around Doksy and Staré Splavy fills up quickly.
