Issa Hayatou, 74-year-old after serving the African Continental Soccer regulatory organ for thirty years before 2017 has been named honorary president of the Confederation of African Football.
The excutive committee of CAF on Thursday, 11th Dec, 2020 evening made the proposal from the meeting thus handing a chance to the Cameroon football administrator to return to Cairo.
The football administration icon had been out of CAF since 2017 when he lost to Malagasy Ahmad Ahmad in a shocking presidential election. By mid 2019, Ahmad was accused of corruption and embezzlement.
Hayatou comes with huge experience. He has been at the helm of FIFA’s Presidency in 2015 following corruption and financial misconducts tabled against then President Sepp Blatter who has also served for a good number of years.
The Garoua native, was in charge of the FIFA till February 2016, marked by the arrival of Italian born Gianni Infatinno emerged as president of the World Soccer governing Organ.
CAF records holds that he remains the ever long serving president of the African Soccer governing body.
