Carlos Baleba, Brighton midfielder told Liverpool transfer 'would suit him best' amid £50m deal talk

Carlos Baleba to Liverpool
Carlos Baleba against Liverpool at Anfield.

Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has been tipped as an ideal fit for Liverpool under incoming manager Arne Slot. The 21-year-old has been linked with a £50 million move away from the Amex Stadium after impressing since Fabian Hurzeler took charge last summer.

Liverpool and Chelsea are among the clubs reportedly interested in Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille for £23 million in August 2023 and has since made 27 appearances this season.

Former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang believes Anfield would be the perfect destination for Baleba. He highlighted Liverpool’s attacking, high-pressing style and quick transitions as key reasons why the young midfielder would thrive under their system.

Tchoutang also pointed out that Liverpool has a strong track record of trusting young players and giving them responsibility, making it an ideal environment for Baleba’s development.

In contrast, Tchoutang expressed doubts about Chelsea as a suitable move for the Brighton star. While acknowledging Chelsea’s solid season, he suggested that the club remains a step below the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Given Baleba’s talent and work ethic, Tchoutang is confident that the midfielder is ready to play for one of England’s top teams and can handle the pressure of a big move.

Although Baleba’s potential transfer fee is high, Tchoutang believes the player is mentally strong and well-supported by his family, ensuring he won’t be affected by financial aspects.

While staying at Brighton for another season wouldn’t be an issue, Tchoutang feels Baleba is ready for a move to a top club. With interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest teams, it’s clear that the midfielder has proven himself at the highest level.
